Careers Expo

What an amazing experience!!! On Friday the 10th June the Tamaki Intermediate students had the greatest opportunity to go to ABS Showgrounds at Greenlane for a Careers Expo.

When I got there, I felt the cool wind blow through my hair. Standing outside wondering how the day would be made me get goosebumps everywhere. Once we got inside I immediately saw stands of different interesting careers and then thought to myself what a wonderful day I will be having.

I first went to the people who wanted to know what my ambition was .The old lady was very generous and she asked us very politely to write on the the dusty chalkboard what we wanted to be when we grow up. The young man was pleasant too but not as generous as the old lady.

Secondly we went to the Youth Town section. The people there were very young. They kept on giving out lots of free stuff but the bit I liked the most was when they took photos of us. I posed in the prettiest way I could. They took lots of photos of me with my wonderful friends.

Next we saw some pupils taking photos in their dream job costumes. We decided it would be fun if we took a photo together. Ashley wanted to be a doctor so she put on this white, clear shiny hat and a coat. Sheralee put on a white, yellow and black hat with a white coat also. I put on a baggy blue mechanic suit. It actually looked as thought we were workers.

Sheralee, Ashley and I went to the engineering stand and they told us that engineering takes a lot of work. There were many ways you can be an engineer. Some engineers make some simple things like hair-clips, hair ties, piece of t-shirts, pants, sweaters, track pants, jackets, shoes, socks and more Others make technological things like ipads, phones, notebooks, computers, smart boards and more.. In engineering you have to be good at maths and science. I felt the goosebumps but then I decided to take up the challenge.

Up next Ashely and I went to check out the lawyer stand as well as the medical stand. We got a lot of interesting information. Lawyers have to be good at a lot of things like speaking with confidence, getting into legal documents and finding all the information that is needed. If you study medicine you have to be good at picking up symptoms of different kinds of sicknesses. Being a doctor you have to be good at predicting. The subjects you have to be good at are health and maths.

When the speaker asked for the Tamaki Intermediate students to exit , I felt a little sad because being at the Careers Expo was really fun. My friends and I had a great time and I hope we get to go next year. The Careers Expo has been a great opportunity for us students to get an idea for a career.

Message: If you want to do something very important in this world, don't be afraid to let loose. Follow your heart and your dreams. Rise up to the challenge and beat it.
