Why do earthquakes happen?

Why and how are earthquakes happening?

The spot underground where the rocks break is called the focus of the earthquake. The place right above the focus is called the epicenter of the earthquake.

Earthquakes are usually caused when rocks underground suddenly break apart along a fault. This release of energy causes the seismic waves to shake the ground.

When two blocks of rocks are rubbing against each other, they stick a little. Rocks don't slide smoothly; the rocks catch on each other. The rocks are still pushing against each other, but not moving.

After a while, the rocks break because of all the pressure that builds up. When the rocks break, the earthquake occurs.

During and after the earthquake, the blocks of rock start moving, and they continue to move until the rocks are stuck together again.

So an earthquake occurs when two blocks of rocks are split apart along a fault.

Sound

Sound mmmmmm where to start? Sound is the transfer of energy in the form of waves. The waves travel by bumping air molecules together. The air molecules move back and forth, but the wave of energy moves outwards. The speed with which the waves travel through air depend solely on temperature. Waves will travel faster in warmer air. In general, at 68 F (20 C) sound travels at 1130 ft/sec (344.4 m/sec.)

DID YOU KNOW?
Sound travels slower in gases than in liquids and more slowly in liquids than solids.
Sound is everywhere you go and everywhere you are.
Women have higher voices than men because their local vocal cords are usually shorter and more tightly stretched.

So there you have it, some facts I know about sound.

Three Exciting Facts I Know About Rugby

Rugby is a well-known game in New Zealand. Rugby has been played for many centuries but for now I am just going to tell you three facts about rugby. The first fact I know is that rugby takes a lot of courage to tackle the opposite team. The second fact I know is that you have to have speed and strength so you can run the ball to the try line. The third fact I know is that when the ball is gone out of the line there is a line out.

Room Makeover!!!

I definitely think that the art room needs a little more creation.

The art room has hard, cold, clean and a lonely peachy color for the floor. It has a blue hard scratchy bench and a wall that is really full of boring creations. The tables are scratched and the chairs are as small as a penguin standing on four feet. Isn't that a little too boring?

If I were to redesign the art room, I would rip off the floors and make the floors look like it is designed by someone flicking paint all over a piece of paper. Now imagine if the benches were to be so colourful that the benchs would actually transform into a rainbow. Awesome right! Imagine if the walls were full of portraits that will come to life as soon as you walk through the door. For example a portrait that has a whale flicking its enormous tail everywhere while splashing cold water comes out. Just imagine behind all of that would be an invisible door that takes you to the world of art. AMAZING!

So there you have it. What the art room looks like and how I would design it.I really think the art room needs a massive change.

Happy Holidays

Hi guys I have been away on a holiday, so I haven't been posting anything, but now that I'm back I will be posting more than ever.
The holidays made me feel lazy but being back at school has made me feel more energetic. This term is going to be crazy at Tamaki Intermediate because we have our rugby and netball tournaments and also we are going to be holding a Science Fair where the students will experiment, create and invent.
I look forward to spend more time with my family and sharing more work with you.
