***Once in a life- time***

On the 23rd October 2011 everyone everywhere was preparing for a once in a life- time game at Eden Park. While the players were preparing for their game my family and I hopped in the car and drove away as quickly as we could into the city.

Once we were there we saw streets packed with mountains of people more than I have ever seen in my life. Everyone was drinking, screaming and having a lot of fun. I was walking around with my head in the clouds watching everyone in amazement but my fun ended when my mum pulled me closer to her so I wouldn't get lost.

The game was about to begin and my family and I quickly ran to the bar so that we wouldn't miss a second of the exciting game live.

They started of with a national anthem from France then it was New Zealand. You could hear everyone singing the national anthem with France and New Zealand. It was emotional!
Then came the best bit of all (The Haka), I loved the way they performed with pride and strength and it was the best part for me.

New Zealand started the game off with a kick and within a heart-beat the All Black players were racing off just to catch that small ball. The players were trying their best to play using all their strength. They were like lightning strikes zooming right out of the sky. I loved the way the two teams played against each other with strength instead of anger.

Well that was until the next World Cup occurs. My favorite part of the game was the haka and always the haka. The All Blacks have brought the Webb Ellis Cup back home. I am really proud of the way New Zealand All Blacks played.

Boring Testing Weeks!

Bored is what I feel when it is testing week.
I feel really bored when it is testing week because we have to sit in our chair for more than 30 minutes. Testing is really, really boring when you are not allowed to talk to your friends when you are finished. I am so greatful for the tests that the school gives us because it shows us where we are and what we have to improve on. Also these tests are good for us because they show us what we need to learn for the future.
I think testing weeks are really, really boring but I also like it because it helps us learn for the future

My Fantastic Mum

My mum’s name is Exeter and she is also from Tuvalu. My mum is a great and lovely person. She always try her best to make money to feed the whole family. She cares a lot for people. If we had a family member that had nowhere to live she would welcome them in with a beautiful smile. That’s how loyal she is to our family. If my sisters or I had a school situation she will find a way to solve the problem because she wants us to have a good education, a good job and a great life when we grow up . My mum is a very busy lady but she always tries to find time to spend with us. If we had no food to eat she would go to the bank and take out money even if she hadn’t paid her bills. Shell take the money out and make sure that we have delicious food to eat. My mum has a lot of special qualities. My mum influences me in a lot of things. She tells us that school is important and that we should never miss a day of school because it would ruin our life when we grow up. My mum also tells me that learn really hard in school because when you grow up you will have successful job. I love my mum really much for what she does for our family. Thank you for your reading what I have to say about my special mum.

*Tamaki has Talent*

On the 23rd September 2011 Tamaki Intermediate had a wonderful school assembly. The Bollywood group, choir, and the Tongan Trip students performed in front of the whole school. To begin the assembly we had a few simple songs. We sang “Swing Low” and “Drum of the Islands”. We sang so beautifully that I think the angels might have been singing with us.Then it was time that the Bollywood group performed. When they started the crowd went quiet focusing on the amazing moves of the dancers. They were appealing.Next up, was the Tongan Trip girls. They performed such a welcoming performance. While they were getting ready the choir sang a staggering song. They sang “Sipiao”. What a incredible song. Then it was time for the Tongan Trip boys. They began to dance and the crowd went wild. More wonderful dances were performed. They brought the roof down.Once again the choir sang another song. They sang “Bring it all Back”. It made me feel happy because they sang in such a proud manner.

My Favourite Subject!

My favorite subject would definitely be Physical Education. I like Physical Education because it helps us get healthy and it boost's up my confidence in playing sports. Also it is a great opportunity to get to know your classmates.Another reason is because Physical Education helps us get fit and healthy for future events and it helps us last longer. I enjoy having Physical Education because we get to play different education games that help us learn.

EZ Cross-country

On the 19th August 2011 I had the opportunity to participate in the Eastern Zone Cross-Country Tournament at Churchill Park School, Glendowie. There were about 14 schools that participated in the Y8 and Y7 divisions.

From where I was standing I really felt the nerves. Hopping into that van made me think twice. I thought about how disappointed I would be if I came last. Then I thought about the positives and what a great experience it would be for me.

When we arrived there I looked at how big the field was. I watched our Yr7 girls running and I knew if they could do it then I could do it. I walked up to the starting line and felt a little bit confident. The siren went and the race started. I began at a good pace and hoped I would keep running the whole way.

While running I felt the urge to stop but I tried really hard to keep going. The pain in my legs began to slow me down but I persevered. I felt happy when I saw the finish line .

When it was all over I was happy that I tried my hardest and I didn't back out. I couldn't wait to get home, have a long relaxing shower and put my feet up.

Why do earthquakes happen?

Why and how are earthquakes happening?

The spot underground where the rocks break is called the focus of the earthquake. The place right above the focus is called the epicenter of the earthquake.

Earthquakes are usually caused when rocks underground suddenly break apart along a fault. This release of energy causes the seismic waves to shake the ground.

When two blocks of rocks are rubbing against each other, they stick a little. Rocks don't slide smoothly; the rocks catch on each other. The rocks are still pushing against each other, but not moving.

After a while, the rocks break because of all the pressure that builds up. When the rocks break, the earthquake occurs.

During and after the earthquake, the blocks of rock start moving, and they continue to move until the rocks are stuck together again.

So an earthquake occurs when two blocks of rocks are split apart along a fault.

Sound

Sound mmmmmm where to start? Sound is the transfer of energy in the form of waves. The waves travel by bumping air molecules together. The air molecules move back and forth, but the wave of energy moves outwards. The speed with which the waves travel through air depend solely on temperature. Waves will travel faster in warmer air. In general, at 68 F (20 C) sound travels at 1130 ft/sec (344.4 m/sec.)

DID YOU KNOW?
Sound travels slower in gases than in liquids and more slowly in liquids than solids.
Sound is everywhere you go and everywhere you are.
Women have higher voices than men because their local vocal cords are usually shorter and more tightly stretched.

So there you have it, some facts I know about sound.

Three Exciting Facts I Know About Rugby

Rugby is a well-known game in New Zealand. Rugby has been played for many centuries but for now I am just going to tell you three facts about rugby. The first fact I know is that rugby takes a lot of courage to tackle the opposite team. The second fact I know is that you have to have speed and strength so you can run the ball to the try line. The third fact I know is that when the ball is gone out of the line there is a line out.

Room Makeover!!!

I definitely think that the art room needs a little more creation.

The art room has hard, cold, clean and a lonely peachy color for the floor. It has a blue hard scratchy bench and a wall that is really full of boring creations. The tables are scratched and the chairs are as small as a penguin standing on four feet. Isn't that a little too boring?

If I were to redesign the art room, I would rip off the floors and make the floors look like it is designed by someone flicking paint all over a piece of paper. Now imagine if the benches were to be so colourful that the benchs would actually transform into a rainbow. Awesome right! Imagine if the walls were full of portraits that will come to life as soon as you walk through the door. For example a portrait that has a whale flicking its enormous tail everywhere while splashing cold water comes out. Just imagine behind all of that would be an invisible door that takes you to the world of art. AMAZING!

So there you have it. What the art room looks like and how I would design it.I really think the art room needs a massive change.

Happy Holidays

Hi guys I have been away on a holiday, so I haven't been posting anything, but now that I'm back I will be posting more than ever.
The holidays made me feel lazy but being back at school has made me feel more energetic. This term is going to be crazy at Tamaki Intermediate because we have our rugby and netball tournaments and also we are going to be holding a Science Fair where the students will experiment, create and invent.
I look forward to spend more time with my family and sharing more work with you.

Candy World

There I was lying in bed wondering what would it be like if the world was made out of sweets and candy.

Chocolate streams, candy floss trees, minty grass, cookies and cream beaches, gin ice cream mountains that all appear in amazing flavors around the world. Full of candies a world of sweets known as Candy-world.No rules, no adults, candies in our bellies any time, anywhere day and night.

Now imagine that! What would life be like? I would say it will be the best life a child could ever dream of .When you really think about it it would be a disaster because we might end up hyped, sick, or really lazy. Having a life of Candy is yummy yummy yummy but having it all the time is sickening in your tummy.

Careers Expo

What an amazing experience!!! On Friday the 10th June the Tamaki Intermediate students had the greatest opportunity to go to ABS Showgrounds at Greenlane for a Careers Expo.

When I got there, I felt the cool wind blow through my hair. Standing outside wondering how the day would be made me get goosebumps everywhere. Once we got inside I immediately saw stands of different interesting careers and then thought to myself what a wonderful day I will be having.

I first went to the people who wanted to know what my ambition was .The old lady was very generous and she asked us very politely to write on the the dusty chalkboard what we wanted to be when we grow up. The young man was pleasant too but not as generous as the old lady.

Secondly we went to the Youth Town section. The people there were very young. They kept on giving out lots of free stuff but the bit I liked the most was when they took photos of us. I posed in the prettiest way I could. They took lots of photos of me with my wonderful friends.

Next we saw some pupils taking photos in their dream job costumes. We decided it would be fun if we took a photo together. Ashley wanted to be a doctor so she put on this white, clear shiny hat and a coat. Sheralee put on a white, yellow and black hat with a white coat also. I put on a baggy blue mechanic suit. It actually looked as thought we were workers.

Sheralee, Ashley and I went to the engineering stand and they told us that engineering takes a lot of work. There were many ways you can be an engineer. Some engineers make some simple things like hair-clips, hair ties, piece of t-shirts, pants, sweaters, track pants, jackets, shoes, socks and more Others make technological things like ipads, phones, notebooks, computers, smart boards and more.. In engineering you have to be good at maths and science. I felt the goosebumps but then I decided to take up the challenge.

Up next Ashely and I went to check out the lawyer stand as well as the medical stand. We got a lot of interesting information. Lawyers have to be good at a lot of things like speaking with confidence, getting into legal documents and finding all the information that is needed. If you study medicine you have to be good at picking up symptoms of different kinds of sicknesses. Being a doctor you have to be good at predicting. The subjects you have to be good at are health and maths.

When the speaker asked for the Tamaki Intermediate students to exit , I felt a little sad because being at the Careers Expo was really fun. My friends and I had a great time and I hope we get to go next year. The Careers Expo has been a great opportunity for us students to get an idea for a career.

Message: If you want to do something very important in this world, don't be afraid to let loose. Follow your heart and your dreams. Rise up to the challenge and beat it.

Swimming Carnival

On 25 February Tamaki Intermediate went on a wet and wild carnival at the Panmure Lagoon Pool.

All the girls got changed into their colourful bikinis and swim gear. Nearly everybody participated in the greatest carnival of all. Being there at my first Intermediate carnival was awesome and a lifelong moment.

So there we were choosing people from my house to participate and get wet. Getting into the water for a double piggy-back was so, so, so cold, wet and nerve racking. Nella and I were trying our best paddling and running as fast as we could but unfortunately we came second, but still a great place.

Later that day we had to get dressed into our beautiful, blue school uniform. When I got to school I felt so tired that the thought of walking just bugged me.

Today was cool and I enjoyed everything that happened.
Thank you for reading my wet and wild swimming carnival story.

***Breakfast club***

Breakfast Club

Today was the first time room1 went as a class to the breakfast club. Room 1 walked anxiously and quietly to the classroom. We sat at a table in our house groups. Our house leaders and class councilors gave out spoons, bowls, sugar, weet-bix, and milk.
When I first started to eat I felt the beautiful taste of weet-bix and milk running down my throat. Make sure you eat your breakfast as it gets your brain up to speed.
Breakfast is important because it gets us going in the morning. I had a great time at the breakfast club.

Christchurch situation

On the 22 February 2011 an earthquake struck Christchurch. Buildings, houses, people, families, and icons were crushed from the earthquake. This news appeared all over New Zealand . Seventy three bodies were found at the bottom of houses and buildings. Luckily for some people they got sent to the closest hospital. All hospitals were booked.
Hundreds of families rang into the police station to report their family members that were missing. Schools and families have opened their homes for other families to come stay with them if they don’t have a home.

My message is be strong, be safe, have a positive mind, and let God be with you.
